Mt. Huangshan

huangshan-mountLocated in the southern part of Anhui Province, the Mt. Huangshan (Yellow Mountains) extend across - Shexian, Yixian, Taiping and Xiuning.

huangshan-mount01The Mountains rose above the earth surface as a result of movement of the earth's crust over a hundred million years ago. Later they underwent the erosion of Quaternary glaciations and have gradually become what they are today.

The Yellow Mountains are a 72-peak mountain range in Anhui's south and are one of China. most famous landscape attractions. In good weather, the scenery is spectacular and the surrounding countryside, with its paddy fields and traditional villages is among the most beautiful in China. Painters and poets have long been attracted to this area looking for inspiration, making this a 1,200-year-old tourist attraction. Lotus Flower Peak, Bright Summit Peak, and Heavenly Capital Peak are the highest and most famous.

The Yellow Mountains, known as Yishan in the Qin Dynasty (221 -207 B.C.), got their present name in 747 A.D. (the 6th year of the Tianbao reign of the Tang Dynasty), when Li Bai (701 -762), the great Tang poet, wrote about them in these lines:

Thousands of feet high tower the Yellow Mountains,
With its thirty-two magnificent peaks,
Blooming like golden lotus flowers,
Amidst red crags and rock columns.
