The China Central Television (CCTV) Tower is the highest building in Beijing. It has an observation platform at the height of 238m, and the top of its antenna rod is as high as 405 meters.
The CCTV Tower is a symbolic modern structure for TV and broadcasting, sightseeing, recreation, and food. On the fourth floor 238 meters above the ground is a watching tower facilitated with an observatory, a hall for distinguished guests, and a revolving restaurant, where people can get a panoramic view of the city. In addition, there are other service facilities, including the Ballroom, recreational places of high-tech and culture, exhibition hall for television and broadcasting, Music Hall, circarama, music fountain, electric games center, Recreation Center, as well as the Pacific Underwater World Exhibition.
The CCTV Tower is listed as one of the members of the World Federation of Great Towers. The tower was first constructed in 1992, and has the broadcasting equipment for China Central Television ( CCTV ). It is situated in the west of Beijing, near the Gongzhufen subway station and Yuyuantan Park. It will be replaced by the new headquarters of CCTV in Chaoyang District, designed by Rem Koolhaas.
